My advise, if you want fast backup speed, just use an open source package like Clonezilla Live with it's default settings (compression turned on).

If you want faster speed, you'll need to compress, because the bottleneck is usually going to be the interface between the PC you're backing up from and the drives you're backing up to, not the CPU time used for the compression algorithms. The only idea that I have yet to try is to change the “Archive Splitting” option from “Automatic” to a fixed file size like 100 GB (or smaller).Īny suggestions from the “backup gurus” would be appreciated. I seem to think that the mere volume of data is taxing Acronis TI 10 beyond it’s design. Before I try switching to another backup program (Paragon, etc.), I wanted to see if there were any other ways to make Acronis TI 10 run faster for backing up photo image files. However, I’m open to using another backup program I would like to try to stay with Acronis as many of our clients use it and will sometimes send us one of their “.tib” backups for testing, etc. No compression (this helps speed it up - using compression really slows it down) Source files: Over 825 GB of NEF, PSD, TIF and JPG files in 350 folders.

Here are hardware and software specifics…īackup hard drive (output) is 1 TB SATA-2 (internal) - installed in the computer.ĪVG is active but not a factor (other non-photo backup tasks run very fast). Also, I “direct connect” the backup (output) hard drive inside of the computer - I use the normal SATA-2 internal connections ( But, even breaking up the job into 2 separate Acronis “Tasks” does not help enough. However, for the photo image files (about 825 GB in about 350 folders - NEF, PSD, TIF, JPG) Acronis TI 10 will literally run for “days” - if I don’t break up the job into multiple tasks (do a certain amount of images per task). Image partitions, I create hard drive “images” of each partition.

I backup 2 computers using Acronis True Image 10. The hardware specs and the TI 10 settings are also listed below.īackups on 4 separate SATA-2 (internal) hard drives. Below you will see what I've done so far. I am looking for some ideas for getting Acronis TI 10 to run faster for backing up a large volume of photo images (over 825 GB in 350 folder).
